Celtics Legend Bob Cousy to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Cousy becomes the second Celtic to receive the Medal of Freedom after Bill Russell was awarded it in 2011.

The Celtics become only the second sports franchise in history with two Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients.

The other franchise is the New York Yankees.

It is unknown when Cousy will receive the award.

Cousy With Celtics

After graduating from Holy Cross, Cousy helped lead the Celtics to six NBA championships from 1950 to 1963.

During that time, he led the league in assists for eight straight seasons and was named an NBA All-Star 13 times.

Cousy won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1957.

Off the court, Cousy helped create the NBA Players Association in 1954, and served as its first president in 1958.

Cousy at Holy Cross

Cousy played for the Crusaders from 1946 to 1950.

During the time, he led Holy Cross to the 1947 and 1950 NCAA Tournament.

Cousy helped Holy Cross win the NCAA Championship in 1947, making them the first New England school to win the tournament.
