NEW: Patriots' Edelman Looks to Have Suffered Torn ACL, Out for Season

Julian Edelman

Wide receiver Julian Edelman left the game following a non-contact knee injury during the Patriots first offensive possession of the game.

ESPN"s Adam Schefter reported that the Patrots expect that Edelman tore his ACL. He will have an MRI on Saturday. 

Edelman made his third catch of the game before his foot appeared to get caught in the turf. He limped off the field on his own and then was carted to the locker room. 

He did not return to the game. 

If Edelman is out for any extended time, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell would see an increase in their role. 

Kony Ealy

Kony Ealy did not play one snap with the starters in the first half. 

Instead, he saw action starting in the third quarter. Once in the game, he recorded a couple of pressures up the middle and had a QB hit. 

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Patriots were shopping Ealy throughout the summer. 

The Patriots acquired Ealy from the Carolina Panthers for a second round draft pick. 

Pats Starting Offense

Despite the injury to Edelman, the Patriots offense put up 24 points in the first quarter. 

Their first score came on a seven play 75-yard drive that ended with Tom Brady finding Chris Hogan on a seven-yard pass. 

Brady and Hogan would connect on New England's second offensive possession, this time on a 32-yard pass down the left side. 

The Patriots starters would get their final touchdown of the game when newcomer, Mike Gillislee, ran to the right side into the end zone for his first touchdown as a Patriot. The play capped off a seven play, 74-yard drive. 

The offense would cap off the scoring with a Stephen Gostkowski field goal to make it 24-0. 

Brady finished the game 12 of 15 for 174 yards and two touchdowns along with an interception. 

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo led the Patriots to a come from behind victory in the final minutes against the Detroit Lions on Friday night. 

Trailing 28-24 in the fourth quarter, Garoppolo led the Patriots on a 13 play, 68-yard drive ending with a Gostkowski field goal to cut the Lions lead to 28-27.

In New England's final possession, Garoppolo led the offense on a seven play, 41-yard drive in 1:59. The possession concluded with a Stephen Gostkowski 41-yard field goal to give the Patriots the 30-28 win. 

Overall, Garoppolo finished the game going 7 of 12 for 83 yards. 

Eric Rowe

Cornerback Eric Rowe had an interception off a deflected pass by Malcolm Butler, but other than that had a rough night in coverage. 

Rowe was beaten on multiple occasions by Detroit's Marvin Jones Jr. and Golden Tate. 

Rowe is the favorite to win the third cornerback spot for nickel packages.
