NEW: Providence's Mount Hope Cowboys Fall Short at National Championship

Providence's Mount Hope Cowboys pee wee football team fell 35-0 to New Jersey's Brick City Lions on Tuesday in the Pee Wee football National Championship semi finals in Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

"It was a really fun trip, it was a really great experience for our kids," said head coach Lorenzo Perry.

Brick City will now play for the National Championship on Friday, December 11.

The Cowboys won their first round game 14-12 against the Colorado War Dogs on Saturday to advance to the semi finals before falling to Brick City.

"It was a great game, we were in a dog fight with those guys and ended up winning 14-12. It was a great confidence booster for our kids," said Perry.

The Cowboys advanced to the National Championship by winning the New England Regional pop warner championship last week.

The team consists of 21 players and five coaches.

The Mount Hope Cowboys

The Mount Hope Cowboys were founded in 1973 as the Woodlawn Cowboys and were part of the Rhode Island pre-teen league servicing the youth of Pawtucket and Providence. However, in 1995 the Woodlawn Cowboys moved from Pawtucket to Providence and became the Mount Hope Cowboys.

The Mount Hope Cowboys football and cheerleading program consists of over 200 local kids.
