The Boston Red Sox have won the World Series.

The Red Sox beat the Dodgers 5-1 in game 5 on Sunday night in Los Angeles to clinch their ninth World Series title in franchise history, and their fourth title since 2004.

"To see these guys compete on a nightly basis and finally win it. You try to put them in situations that they're going to be successful. And at the end, obviously they decide games and what they did was amazing, very proud of them," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora after the game.

Steve Pearce was named World Series MVP after going 4 for 12, with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs in the series.

"You know, baseball is a funny game. You never know where the game will take you. And I've gone through a lot in my life or in my career to be here, and I couldn't be more thankful," said Pearce after the game.

Red Sox pitcher David Price went seven innings and gave up three hits and one run to get the win.

It is his third straight postseason win after previously being 0-9 prior to game 5 of the ALCS.

"It was tough, absolutely. To answer that question in Spring Training day and day and day and day, and over and over and over and over, anytime it got to September, playoffs, I hold all the cards now. And that feels so good. That feels so good," said Price after the game.

Red Sox Cruise

The Red Sox jumped out to a lead in the first inning when Pearce belted a two-run home run off of Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw to put Boston up 2-0.

In the bottom of the inning, LA’s David Freese would get the Dodgers on the board with a solo home run to right field off of Price to cut LA’s deficit to 2-1.

The home run came on Price's first pitch of the game.

However, the Red Sox offense would add to the lead.

Still leading 2-1 in the sixth, Mookie Betts homered to left field to extend the Red Sox lead to 3-1.

Betts’ home run ended a 0-for-11 slump in the World Series.

After Price got the Dodgers to go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Boston’s J.D. Martinez hit a home run to centerfield on a 1-1 count to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead.

In the top of the eighth, Pearce would strike again, this time hitting a home run to left field to push Boston’s lead to 5-1.

Pearce joins Babe Ruth and Ted Kluzewski as the only players 35 or older to have a multi-home run World Series game.

"That's great company. Those guys were the best. And if my name gets to sit right next to theirs, I know I've accomplished something," said Pearce after the game.

Chris Sale came out of the bullpen in the ninth inning and sealed the win.

Historic Season

The World Series win caps off a historic season for the Red Sox.

Boston got off to a 17-2 start and then rolled to a franchise record 108 wins, winning the AL East for the third straight season.

When the playoffs begin, the Red Sox beat the New York Yankees in four games and the defending World Series champion Houston Astros in five games.

Boston then beat the Dodgers in five games to win the title.
