NEW: URI Men’s Basketball Upsets George Mason at Home, 74-65

The University of Rhode Island men's basketball team upset George Mason on Saturday at home, 74-65.

It was George Mason's second loss of the season and first since December 6, 2025. The Patriots came into the contest with an 18-1 record and were 6-0 in the A-10.

The Rams - now 12-8 overall and 3-4 in the A-10 - held George Mason to just 10 field goals in the second half, including just one three.

URI made 18 second-half free throws, including 12 in the final 5:03 of the game. 

 

Game in Focus 

Keeyan Itejere gave Rhode Island a five-point lead with just over a minute remaining before halftime, before the Patriots hit two 3-pointers to give George Mason a 33-32 lead at the half. 

In the second half, URI outscored the Patriots by 10 points. The Rams went on a 14-4 run, hitting six of its first eight shots. 

Jahmere Tripp finished the game with a career high of 23 points. He added seven rebounds and one steal.

Tyler Cochran finished with 20 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Jonah Hinton had 13 points, with two assists, one rebound, and one block; Keeyan Itejere led the Rams on the defensive end with four blocks, adding eight points and six rebounds.

Rhode Island turned the ball over a season-low four times. The Rams scored 11 points off turnovers compared to two for the Patriots. 

URI takes on Dayton next on the road on Tuesday, January 27.
