NEW: URI Suspends QB Charged With Assault

The University of Rhode Island has suspended redshirt freshman football player Luke Casey indefinitely, following Casey's arrest Friday night at a party in Maryland.

"Effective immediately, the University of Rhode Island Athletics Department has suspended redshirt freshman Luke Casey indefinitely from the University’s football program pending the outcome of the police investigation following his arrest last Friday night in Maryland,” URI athletic Director Thorr Bjorn said in a statement.

Casey is charged with second degree assault. WJAR reported that 2 people died at the concert, among dozens of apparent drug overdoses and alcohol citations.

Casey was expected to compete for the starting quarterback job this season.
