And, that is only if everything goes as the developer and Governor Dan McKee claim.  Rhode Island taxpayers are on the hook for $132 million in bond payments to finance the minor league soccer stadium. The stadium is home to the Rhode Island F.C. club of the USL.

In 2023, The Hilltop financial advisor, who cited concerns about the financing scheme, withdrew as a municipal advisor to the City of Pawtucket on the bond offering, raising questions about the long-term financial health of the project.

The stadium is years late and more than 50% over budget. The naming rights to the facility were sold to Centreville Bank. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

And, when Rhode Islanders get done paying their share of the cost of the stadium, taxpayers will own none of it. It is all owned by a group led by California businessman Brett Johnson.

For the 436,902 households in Rhode Island, the games begin, and the bill is due.
