Patriots Overcome Slow Start to Beat Bills 37-16 on Christmas Eve

Dion Lewis rushed for 129 yards and had two touchdowns as the New England Patriots overcame a slow start to beat the Buffalo Bills 37-16 on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium. 

Lewis carried the ball 24 times for 129 yards and a rushing touchdown, while hauling in five passes for 24 yards and a touchdown.

The Patriots improve to 12-3 on the season, while Buffalo drops to 8-7 overall.

A win next week against the Jets would give the Patriots the number one overall seed in the AFC. 

Patriots Pull Away in 2nd Half 

After a Stephen Gostkowski field goal tied the game at 16 in the third quarter, the Patriots offense took over.

New England closed the third quarter with a Mike Gillislee one-yard touchdown run to give the Patriots a 23-16 lead following an extra point by kicker Stephen Gostkowski.

In the fourth quarter, Tom Brady connected with Lewis for a 12-yard touchdown pass to extend the Patriots advantage to 30-16 following a Gostkowski extra point with 9:27 to play in the game.

On the Patriots next possession Lewis would seal the game with a four-yard touchdown run to put the Patriots up 37-16.

The Patriots finished the game with 193 total rushing yards. 

Brady's Pick 6 Sparks Bills in 1st Half 

After the Patriots defense stopped Buffalo on fourth and goal, the offense took over possession on their own 12-yard line.

On third and 7, Brady’s pass to Kenny Britt was intercepted by Jordan Poyer and returned 19 yards to the end zone for a Buffalo touchdown, giving them a 10-3 lead after the extra point by kicker Stephen Hauschka.

The interception was Brady’s sixth in the last five games.

The Patriots would get it back on the next drive.

Brady would cap off a nine play, 75-yard drive with a touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski in the front corner of the end zone to tie the game at 10 following a Gostkowski extra point.

After a Taylor touchdown pass to Benjamin was overturned, the Bills got a field goal from Hauschka to tie the score at 13 going into the locker room.

The Patriots wrap up the regular season on Sunday, December 31 against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium.
