PC Basketball Picked to Finish 3rd in Big East Preseason Poll

The Providence College Friars men’s basketball team was picked to finish third in the Big East preseason poll released on Thursday.

PC finished 10-8 in the Big East last season, 21-14 overall, and advanced to their fifth straight NCAA Tournament, losing to Texas A&M in the opening round.

This season, Providence returns notable players such as junior Alpha Diallo and senior Emmitt Holt while adding highly touted freshmen David Duke and AJ Reeves.

The Poll

The Friars got 58 points to finish behind Villanova and Marquette, who were picked first and second respectively.

Just behind the Friars is St. John’s and Butler, who were picked fourth and fifth respectively, while Xavier, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Creighton, and Depaul were picked six through ten.

Duke and Diallo Receive Honors

Duke was named Preseason Co-Freshman of the Year along with Villanova’s Jahvon Quinerly.

This comes after Duke finished his senior year at Cushing Academy ranked as the 47th best prospect by ESPN.

At Cushing, he averaged 17 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

Diallo was named to the Preseason All-Big East First Team after averaging 13 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season.

In the Big East Tournament, Diallo averaged 19 points and eight rebounds per game to help the Friars get to the championship.

PC in Action

The Friars will play their final exhibition game of the season on Saturday, October 27 when they host Bowie State at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Game time is set for 4 p.m.

Providence opens the regular season on Tuesday, November 6 when they host Siena at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
