PC Beats Georgetown in Big East Tourney, Faces Creighton Next

The Providence College men’s basketball team beat Georgetown University in the first round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

The Friars won 74-56 — it was the third win this season over former Friar Coach Ed Cooley and the Hoyas.

The Friars were led by Josh Oduro, who scored 20 and grabbed 9 Rebounds

Ticket Gaines added 15 points.

And newly minted Big East MVP Devin Carter scored 19 points and added 9 rebounds.

The Friars move to 20-12 on the year. 

Game Highlights

Providence College led at the half 40-27 behind.

In the second half the Friars went cold at the 8—minute mark and did not score a field goal for more than 5 minutes allowing the Hoyas to cut the Friars led to just 8 points but a spurt by Carter put the game away.

The Friars scored the final 10 points of the game.

The Friars hit 12-32 3-pointers and shot 78% from the free-throw line.

The Hoyas shot just 21% from the charity stripe.

Jayden Epps of the Hoyas scored 30 points but was only 3-11 from the free-throw line.

PC, the #7 seed in the tournament, now faces #2 seed Creighton on Thursday night.
