The Friars led 2-0 going into the third period when Omaha's Jake Guentzel beat Jon Gillies after Gillies turned the puck over on a clear attempt.

The goal all but sealed the Friars win and a spot in the National Championship game.
Providence would make sure of it when Nick Saracino added an empty netter in the final 30 seconds to give PC a 4-1 win.
Friars Dominate, Finally Cash In
After being snakebitten for the first period and a half, the Friars finally cashed in on their numerous scoring chances.
The goal came in the form of Johnston, Rhode Island native Noel Acciari, who picked up a rebound in the crease to put the Friars up 1-0 with nine minutes to play in the period.
About four minutes later, PC's Mark Jankowski roofed a shot over Omaha's Masse to put Providence up 2-0 in the game.
The Friars had controlled the entire game up to this point and finally had goals to show for it. Providence had a 16-3 advantage in scoring chances at this point in the game.
PC outshot Omaha 48-26 in the game, including 16-9 and 17-7 in the first and second period respectively.
Goaltending Show
Friars goaltender Jon Gillies did not see a whole lot of action in this game but came up big when Providence needed him to, making several key saves in the third period. Gillies stopped 26 of 27 Omaha shots.
On the other end, Omaha's Ryan Massa stood on his head, giving his Mavericks a chance right up till the halfway point of the final frame. Massa stopped 44 of the Friars 47 shots, an impressive performance despite the loss.
On to the National Championship
Providence will faceBoston University on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the TD Garden for the National Championship.
