Red Sox Retire Ortiz's #34, Beat Angels 9-4

The Boston Red Sox retired David Ortiz’s number 34 before cruising to a 9-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night at Fenway Park. 

Ortiz is the 11th player in Red Sox history to have his number retired. 

In the game, Hanley Ramirez and Sandy Leon both hit two-run home runs and Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello snapped a four game losing streak. Porcello went 6 1/3 innings giving u four runs while striking out eight to get the victory.

The Red Sox improve to 41-32 on the season. 

Hot Hitting Carries Red Sox 

Boston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Xander Bogaerts hit an RBI double to score Mookie Betts who got on base courtesy of a lead off walk. 

The Red Sox then got two runs on two wild pitches by Angels pitcher Alex Meyer to take a 3-0 lead. 

After the Angels scored a run in the top of the fourth, Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to give the Red Sox a 5-1 lead. The home run was the 250th of Ramirez's career. 

The Red Sox would take a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Leon hit a two-run home run of his own to center field, scoring Jackie Bradley Jr. 

The Angels scored three runs in the seventh to cut Boston’s lead to 7-4, however the Red Sox would get it back in the 8th. 

With two outs in the inning and two men on, Leon hit a RBI double to left field scoring  Mitch Moreland and Jackie Bradley Jr. to give Boston their 9-4 lead. The score they would go on to win by.

The Red Sox and Angels continue their series on Saturday, June 24 at 7:15 p.m. 

The pitching matchup is Boston’s David price against LA’s J.C. Ramirez.
