Red Sox Roll Blue Jays 7-1 Behind Sale's 11 Strikeouts

Chris Sale struck out 11Toronto batters and Xander Bogaerts recorded three RBIs as the Boston Red Sox rolled the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 on Saturday in Toronto.

Sale threw seven shutout innings en route to his third straight win and 11th win of the season. His 11 strikeouts boost his major league leading total to 166 on the year.

The win improves the Red Sox to 46-35 on the season and 1.5 ahead of the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.

The Red Sox took control of the game right from the first inning.

With two outs, Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two run double scoring Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.

Dustin Pedroia added to the Red Sox lead in the second inning with a double to center field to score Devin Marrero and Mookie Betts and give Boston a 4-0 lead.

Bogaert’s would add a sacrifice fly in the 5th and a two run single off Toronto’s Lucas Harrell in the ninth to give the Red Sox a 7-0 lead.

The would go on to cruise to the 7-1 win.

The Red Sox and Blue Jays conclude their series on Sunday, July 2 at 1 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Drew Pomeranz against Toronto’s Joe Biagini.
