The storied University of Connecticut basketball program will be rejoining the Big East Conference according to reports.

UConn is expected to leave the American Athletic Conference and return to the Big East for basketball and other sports in 2020, sources told ESPN.

If it happens, the move would re-ignite a significant local rivalry— UConn’s Danny Hurley coaching against Providence College's Ed Cooley.

The two coaches had numerous rivalry games and in one a heated yelling exchange.

UConn was an original member of the Big East which began in 1979.

UConn has won three National Championships — two as a member of the Big East.

The Huskies moved to the AAC during realignment in 2013.

The Big East retained original members Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, and St. John's, as well as longtime member Villanova. DePaul and Marquette also remained in the Big East, and the league then added Butler, Creighton, and Xavier.

According to ESPN, UConn’s Board of Trustee still has to vote on the move.

It is unknown what the UConn football program will do.
