Revs Get Knocked Out of U.S. Open Cup by Charlotte

The New England Revolution fell 1-0 to the Charlotte Independence in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night at Harvard. With the loss, the Revs are eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup and now return to league play. 

After a scoreless first half, the Independence scored ten minutes into the second half off the foot of captain Jorge Herrera blasted a bouncing ball past Revs goalkeeper Brad Knighton from 25 yards out into the top right corner. 

The Revolution had chances to tie the game, their best chance coming in the 63rd minute when Kelyn Rowe fired a shot  that was tipped wide by Charlotte goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap

The Revolution return to action on Sunday, June 21 when they visit first place D.C. United. Game time is set for 5 p.m. 

The game will be shown on ESPN 2.
