Revs Win Streak Snapped North of the Border
It has been said that all good things must come to an end, and Saturday for the Revolution that was their seven-game unbeaten streak as they fell 2-0 to the Montreal Impact. The loss was a surprise to many Revs fans as the 1st place Revs fell to the last place Impact. The Revs were held scoreless for the first time since their last loss on April 5 against D.C. United.
The Revs were taken off their game early on when Andres Romero and Marco Di Vaio played a beautiful give-and-go which freed up Romero for the first goal of the game just 2:04 into the game. Romero was able to split defenders Chris Tierney and A.J. Soares to get to the net and received a great pass from Di Vaio before beating goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.
The Impact controlled the action for most of the remainder of the half, including a 38th minute goal by Jack McInerney. The goal for McInerney came following an Issey Nakajuma-Farran shot from outside of the box which took a big bounce off of Shuttleworth, leaving the goal open for McInerney. The Revs averted certain disaster late in the half as Marco Di Vaio nearly put on past Shuttleworth, but A.J. Soares made a great defensive play to prevent the goal.

The Revs did, however, get a few late chances off the feet of Daigo Koayashi and Andy Dorman. Kobayashi put the ball high over the net and Dorman left one just wide of the net, but the Revs were unable to get one by Impact keeper Troy Perkins.
On the game, both teams took 14 shots. The Impact were able to get eight shots on target while the Revolution managed three. The Impact were also able to block five revolution shots. The Revolution did control possession in the game, 60.4% to 39.6%.
Following the game Revolution coach Jay Heaps was quick to give praise to the opponent according to reporters.
Heaps gave lots of credit to Montreal postgame. Said quartet of Di Vaio/McInerney/Issey/Romero "shredded" #NERevs in first half.

Even with the loss, the Revolution stay atop the standings in the Eastern Conference with 23 points but fall to 7-4-2. The Revs will be back at Gillette Stadium next Sunday, June 8, to take on the New York Red Bulls at 5 pm in the final game before the World Cup break.
