Rhode Island College Football Weekend Preview

Bryant is off so two Rhode Island college football teams in action on Saturday, Brown is at home while URI is on the road. Both teams need wins, but URI is going for a huge upset. 

Holy Cross vs Brown, Saturday, 12 :30 at Brown Stadium

Coming off a win against in state rival URI, the Brown Bears (1-2) look to even up their record this weekend when they host New England Rival, (2-4) Holy Cross in the 59th all time matchup between the two teams. Coming into this game, Brown coach Phil Estes is sitting on 99 career wins and will be looking to notch his 100th on Saturday, giving him a record of 100-63 in his 17 seasons at Brown University

For the Bears, Quarterback Marcus Fuller will look to get his second straight win as a starter and to do it, he will need help from running back Andrew Coke and wide receiver Stian Romberg who both look to build off of last weeks success. The Brown Bears are still looking for their first home win of the season.

URI at Villanova, Saturday, 1pm,  at Villanova Stadium

The University of Rhode Island Rams (0-5), look for their first win of the season on Saturday as they visit the 5/6 ranked Villanova Wildcats, the 99th meeting all time between the two programs. The Rams will need a tremendous road performance from just about everyone, including redshirt freshman quarterback Mack Lowrie and freshman running back Harold Cooper. URI's defense will be up against a real test this weekend as Villanova is the highest scoring team in the CAA, averaging 41 points a game and 246 rushing yards per game which is also good enough for best in the league. They have scored at least 40 points in four straight games. 

One player that the Rams offense need to keep an eye on is Nova linebacker Don Cherry who leads the conference and is third nationally with 7.5 sacks on the season. If URI wins, this will be their first win against a Nationally ranked opponent since 2011 and only their fourth win against the Wildcats all time.
