Rhody Blows Out Bears

URI Senior Delroy James took it to Brown and dominated the game with an endless array of dunks and spinning layups. He was one of five Rhody players who scored in double figures in the 92-67 beating of Brown. A tenacious Rhode Island press repeated turned over the Brown squad that had come of a solid upset of another A-10 Team, Fordham.

James led all scorers with 23 points, connecting on 9-of-15 from the field. Teammates Nikola Malesevic (14), Daniel West (14), Ben Eaves (12) and Akeem Richmond (10) each scored in double figures. Eaves also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Bears remained cut the constant 13 to 19 point lead down to  nine at the 13:09 in the second half, but the Rams went on an endless run and held Brown without a field goal for nearly five minutes and opened up a 73-48 lead.

The Rhode Island lead jumped to 31-point lead with 1:06 to go in the game. The Rams' 31-point advantage was their largest of the night.  Brown looked young and deeply missed the leadership and talent of Matt Mullery, who graduated in 2010. Brown suffered through 22 turnovers and URI only had 10.

URI will return to action on Friday at Toledo, Ohio to compete in the 2010 2K Sports Classic against the College of Charleston. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.   Brown hosts Sacred Heart this Saturday at the Pizzotola center.
