Rhody Outlasts BC 78-72 In Double OT
Billy Baron scored 7 of his game-high 25 points in the second overtime to help lift URI to a 78-72 win Monday at Boston College.

Baron was playing in only his 4th game at URI after transferring from the University of Virginia last winter. It was, by far, his most productive effort of the four. The sophomore went only 5 of 17 from the field but he did manage to hit 4 of his 11 three’s and go a perfect 11 for 11 from the free throw line. He also added 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Freshman guard Mike Powell also continued his improved play of late netting 21 points while pulling down 7 boards. Two of the Rams’ big men also came close to registering double-doubles as freshman Jonathan Holton had 11 points and 9 rebounds. Senior Orion Outerbridge had 9 points to go along with 11 boards.

However, Rhody dominated the glass out-rebounding the Eagles 45-31. Boston College also committed 16 turnovers to just 8 for URI.
Rhody led by as many as 10 in the first half (20-10) and 9 in the second half (51-42), but the Eagles refused to go away.
Tied at 59 at the end of regulation, URI scored the first 5 points of the first overtime to lead 64-59. However, three missed three’s helped BC tie the game up at 65 and send it to a second overtime. That’s where Baron and the Rams won it.
URI finished the non-conference portion of their schedule at (3-12). The Rams now head into A-10 play for the remainder of the year starting Saturday night at 7pm when Richmond visits the Ryan Center.
