This past weekend, the #21/23 Rhode Island Rams won an overtime battle, beating Stony Brook 27-20 in front of a homecoming crowd Saturday. The Rams improved to 4-0 for the first time in 20 years.

In the past 20 seasons, URI has only had two winning seasons.

Next Saturday Rhode Island will play one of the program's biggest games in several decades when it hosts No. 9/10 Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The Blue Hens are 3-1 and 2-0 in the conference following their 20-15 win over Albany Saturday.

Last Saturday, the Rams (4-0, 2-0 CAA Football) got the winning points on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Kasim Hill to tight end Caleb Warren on the opening possession of overtime. Then the defense came up big. Stony Brook (1-4, 0-2 CAA Football) had third-and-1 at the 2-yard line, but Westley Neal, Jr. stopped Ty Son Lawton for no gain. The Seawolves were forced to go for it on fourth down, but James Makszin and Jarrett Martin combined to stop Lawton for no gain again, clinching the victory.

The other URI wins were against weak Bryant and Brown squads, and Albany.

For the third time in its last seven games, Rhode Island won in overtime.

The URI Football team has been one of the weakest programs in the country. Under head coach Jim Fleming the team has had one winning season since 2014 (6-5) in 2018. Fleming is 21-54 at Rhode Island.
