Scott Cordischi On Sports: World Series or Bust?
A preview of things to come? Or much ado about nothing?

Those are the questions many people are asking about this interleague series between the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies.
On paper, these may be the two best teams in baseball. In reality, that also may be true.

If, indeed, it does come down to these two teams being the final clubs standing, it would have all the makings of great World Series. But that seems as far away from today as low unemployment rates in Rhode Island do.
-It’s a good thing that last night’s game wasn’t a World Series game or Cliff Lee and the Phillies would have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

-With representatives for the players and owners meeting again this week, it seems as if an end to the NFL’s labor dispute may be near.
-Sports Illustrated’s Peter King put it best on WEEI last week when he said that it’s not just the players who are worried about missing a paycheck. The owners don’t want their big money advertisers like beer companies and car dealers to allocate their fall advertising revenue to other things like college football which are decisions that have to be made very soon.
-Isn’t it ironic that just as the NFL seems to be coming close to ending its labor dispute, that the NBA players and owners seem to be digging in for a long and drawn out battle?
-Brown University football coach Phil Estes and his staff wrap up another extremely successful football camp at the Ivy League School today. The camp continues to grow year by year with more than 300 elite high school football players in attendance this year. The secret to their success is simple: great coaches who genuinely care about the kids they coach in addition to running a championship program.
-Plaxico Burress to the Patriots? Why not? Bill Belichick has had a lot of success with those low-risk, high-reward type of players like Corey Dillon and Randy Moss just to name two.

-Who knew the Bruins had so many fans? Where once it was impossible to find any B’s paraphernalia in these parts, now all you see are Bruins t-shirts, hats and bumper stickers.
-Frank McCourt can blame Major League Baseball all he wants but the fact that his Los Angeles Dodgers filed for bankruptcy is a disgrace that’s all on him for the disgustingly lavish lifestyle he and his ex-wife lived for so many years.
-With the way things are progressing in the NFL labor talks, I’m almost expecting to see Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith break out in song together singing “Kumbaya.”
-According to Rob McClanaghan, former Celtic Brian Scalabrine will also be a part of his and Jimmy Baron’s shooting clinic at Bishop Hendricken this Friday from 9am-3pm.
-The fact that the Montreal police still want to meet with Zdeno Chara over his hit on Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty on March 8th is absurd!
-Don’t they have anything better to do with tax payer money like search for Montreal’s version of Whitey Bulger, whoever that may be?
-Speaking of Whitey, how hard was the FBI looking for him if he was in the same spot in California for the last 15 years?
-Danny Ainge has gone on record as saying that he believes that this is the last year that the Celtics can realistically expect the “Big 3” to compete for a championship.
-And even that comes with a lot of “ifs.”

-Tim Thomas needs to shave the mustache. He looks more like a porn star than the best goalie on the planet.
-Despite their poor play as of late, I have learned my lesson not to write the Red Sox off after their comeback from that miserable 2-10 start to the season.
-I think all of our elected officials should have to grow a beard like NHL players do in the postseason and not shave them until they balance our city, state and federal budgets and bring unemployment down to a respectable level.
