Shooting Woes Prove Costly as URI Falls 66-55 to College of Charleston

Early offensive struggles proved costly for the URI Rams men’s basketball team on Tuesday night as they fell 66-55 to the College of Charleston.

The loss drops Rhode Island to 1-1 on the season while Charleston is 3-0.

The Rams were not able to get anything going in the first half.

They opened the game going just 2 for 19 from the floor allowing Charleston to jump out to a 16-8 lead in the opening ten minutes.

The Rams pulled within five, 18-13, with 5:44 to play in the half on two free throws by Christion Thompson, before Charleston closed the half on a 13-6 run to take a 31-19 lead into the break.

The Rams shot just 22.9% from the field in the first half, while Charleston was not much better.

They shot just 33% from the floor, but got to the free throw line 16 times and knocked down 14 shots.

In the second half, the Rams pulled within five, 54-49, on a Ryan Preston tip-in with seven minutes to play, but would not get any closer.

Charleston would pull away and go on to win 66-55.

In the game, Rhode Island was led by Cyril Langevine, who poured in 18 points and grabbed ten rebounds.

Jeff Dowtin added 16 points.

Next Up

URI returns to action on Friday, November 16 when they host Harvard at the Ryan Center.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
