Sorry Red Sox! You're a Distant Third Tonight.
The Red Sox and Yankees open up a weekend series at Fenway tonight and I can honestly say that I don’t really care. Why bother? It’s almost mid May and the Celtics and Bruins are still alive. As great of a rivalry as Sox-Yankees is it’s only regular season baseball. The real meaningful games are being played by the B’s and C’s.
Don’t get me wrong, I will flip to NESN when both the Celts and Bruins are at commercial break or between quarters or periods. But tonight, the Sox are a distant third on my sports radar.
The Bruins get prime billing on my Samsung 42” TV tonight. Why? First off, they get a jump on the Celtics by starting at 7pm. Second, and more importantly, there is something about playoff hockey that excites me. When the Bruins are in it, I’m really fired up!

What the Celtics have a chance to accomplish may be more impressive. Yes, they are still very talented. But the Big Three is getting old. And they have a chance to knock of the best player and the best team in the NBA. Okay, LeBron James may have an elbow that’s less than 100%. But they had the best record in the NBA and the Celts have a chance to send them home. They also have a chance to be the last team King LeBron faces in a Cleveland uniform.
Okay, alright! The Red Sox have a chance to beat the almighty Yankees – the best team money can buy. I’ll take a peek. But not for long. It’s playoff time and the Celtics and Bruins are still alive!
