The Great Danes Should Overpower the Rams in Kingston

The Rhode Island Rams' football program continues to struggle under new head coach Jim Fleming.

Fleming, who served as defensive coordinator at the University of Central Florida from 2012 to 2013, was hired last December to replace Joe Trainer.

The Rams are 0-2 and have lost to Marshall and Fordham by a combined score of 102-14.

However, considering their inept history on the gridiron, it's hard to fault Fleming for Rhode Island's woes.

Rhode Island hasn't fielded a winning squad in 13 years and the Rams are 26-77 overall since 2005.

The Rams will host the University of Albany Great Danes this Saturday at Meade Stadium.

Although undefeated, the Great Danes (2-0) lack offensive firepower and are averaging a mere 16.5 points over two games.

To assist defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis and his beleaguered unit, Fleming and Bill Bleil should devise a plan to keep the ball on the ground and control the clock.

The tandem of Rams running backs Lyle McCombs and Harold Cooper have only rushed for 183 yards on 49 carries.

Still, if provided with adequate blocking, McCombs and Cooper can produce and prevent the Great Danes from attacking.

Ultimately, regardless of any efforts made by Fleming, Rekstis, Bleil, McCombs and Cooper, expect Albany to feed the Rams their seventh consecutive defeat this weekend in Kingston.

Radio coverage of the game is scheduled for 1:00 PM on 920 AM (WHJJ).
