URI Basketball 5-Year Trend: The Muddling Mid-Major

The numbers don't lie.

Over the past four-plus years, the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team has a combined record of 66 wins and 77 losses -- the worst record of any of the four Rhode Island Division-1 programs.

The "trend" for the Rams 'program has been de facto going nowhere.

A mid-major, middle-of-the-road, middling, muddling basketball program.

The only winning season in the past five years was 2019-2020 under David Cox, and that season was Cox coaching the remnant of the team Dan Hurley left two years earlier before heading to the University of Connecticut.

Hurley went on to win the 2023 National Championship, and this season, the Huskies are presently the number 1 team in the U.S. in the AP rankings with a record 24-3 record.

The Rams this season have been a team of streaks and presently, URI is in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

More distressing for the Rams is that URI has the worst record of local programs for the past four-plus seasons.
