URI’s Offense Comes to Life

After Elon’s Dondre Howell took an interception return 26 yards for a touchdown to give Elon a 7-0 lead on the first play from scrimmage, the Rams offense scored 37 straight points to roll to the win.

The Rams took the lead for good with 1:53 left to play in the second quarter when quarter back Jordan Mazzano hit Marven Beauvais for a 13 yard touchdown pass, giving the Rams a 10-7 lead after the extra point.

URI would add a field goal with no time left on the clock to take a 13-7 lead into the locker room.

The Rams would continue to pour it on in the second half.

After another field goal made it 16-7, Mazzano hit Aaron Parker for a seven yard touchdown pass to give URI a 23-7 lead with 1:18 to play in the third quarter.

From there, running back Harold Cooper took over.

Cooper Runs Wild

On the opening drive of the fourth quarter, Mazzano handed the ball to Cooper who took it 70 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 30-7 lead. The run was the longest run in 62 games for URI, dating back to 2011.

Later in the quarter with URI up 37-14, Cooper returned a kick off 98 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams their winning margin.

This marked the second straight game in which Cooper has returned a kick for a touchdown, and the third time in his career.
