URI Opens Conference Play vs. Albany at 1 p.m.

The University of Rhode Island Rams (0-1) kick off CAA play on Saturday when they host (1-0) Albany at 1 p.m. This is the 4th meeting all-time between the two programs. 

Rhode has not won a home opener since 2011.

The Rams are 1-2 all-time agains the Great Danes with Albany winning the previous meeting  37-20.

The last URI win in the series came in 2013 when they defeated Albany 19-13 in overtime in Albany.

The Rams are coming off a 55-6 loss to Kansas last week and are looking to even up their record. 

Despite the score, Rhody had success running ball, going for 170 yards and averaging 4.2 yards per carry . That all came without running back Harold Cooper who was injured on the opening kick off. 

URI’s best rushing output in any game last season was 149 rushing yards. 

Quarterback Wesley McKoy threw for 49 yards on 6 of 23 passing with a touchdown and an interception. He will look to be more efficient in the passing game. 

Looking Ahead 

Following URI’s game against Albany, they will visit Harvard on September 16. 

However, getting on the board with a conference win is the first task.
