URI Snags 2015 Hoops Recruit Leroy Butts

URI men's basketball has earned a verbal commitment from class of 2015 forward Leroy Butts, a 3-star prospect from Arlington, Virginia.

ESPN's Jeff Goodman was first to report the verbal commitment.  Butts took an official visit to URI this weekend after de-committing from Rutgers last week.

The power player here seems to be recently hired assistant coach David Cox, who recruited Butts to Rutgers and has big recruiting connections in the Washington, D.C. area.

At 6'8" but with a thin frame, Butts projects as a small forward/power forward "tweener."  He has the rebounding ability and toughness inside to contribute as a "small ball" power forward, but also has the athletic ability and a capable perimeter skill set to present matchup problems for small forwards.

Butts is the first player committed to the class of 2015 for URI.  The Rams currently have 12 scholarship players (out of 13 available) for the upcoming season and will see Gilvydas Biruta and T.J. Buchanan graduate after the 2014-15 season, leaving Rhody with 2 more scholarships available (at the moment) for 2015.
