Who is the Best Athlete Ever from Metro Prov?

Joe Mazzulla
Metro Prov has been a hot bed for basketball talent over the years, and our list of the best athletes to ever come out of the area certainly reflects that. Three of today's four choices excelled on the hardwood, with two of them starring at Providence College. Ernie DiGregorio led PC to the 1973 Final Four, and went on to set the NBA's rookie single-game assist record. The sharp shooter from PC is a solid choice, but his former teammate "Bad News" Marvin Barnes is hardly a slouch. Barnes earned the 1975 ABA rookie of the year award after putting up 24 points and 15.5 rebounds a game with the Spirit of St. Louis.

Another Metro Prov basketball great is former Bishop Henricken star Joe Mazzulla. After leading the Hawks to three consecutive state championships, Mazzulla went on to a highly successful career at the University of West Virginia, including a Final Four appearance in 2010. The lone non-basketball player on this list is former LA Dodgers star Davey Lopes. A native of East Providence, Lopes spent nine years with the Dodgers and won a World Series with the club in 1981.

So now, let us hear what you have to think; Who is the best athlete ever from Metro Prov?
