Winthrop Basketball Coach Pat Kelsey Speaks Out About the Newtown Tragedy

(Courtesey Big Ten Network/ESPN)

Sometimes the quotes we get from athletes and coaches aren't worth the paper they are printed on.  That was not the case Tuesday night in Columbus, Ohio where the Winthrop men's basketball team lost to Ohio State 65-55.  Following the game, Eagles head coach Pat Kelsey used his postgame press conference as a forum to give his opinion on what needs to be done in the wake of the tragedy.  While spontaneous, his passionate plea seemed well thought out.  He spoke as a parent and called for a bipartisan approach to addressing the issue.  With all of the bickering going on about our second ammendment rights and what should be done about them, his plea was one that all should listen to and one to be taken quite seriously.
