Another Weather Rut?

Another Weather Rut?

New England has the longtime well-deserved reputation of “wait-a-minute weather”. If you don’t like the weather “just wait a minute” and it will change. However, quite out of character, there seems to be some order in the normal chaos of weather this fall and early winter.

For the past couple of months we have been alternating long stretches of above followed by below normal temperatures. From October 8th through the 22nd we had fifteen straight days of above normal readings. That was followed by fifteen straight days of below normal readings from the 23rd through November 6th. From November 24th through yesterday, you guessed it, another two weeks of above normal warmth. And now it appears we’re headed into another extended stretch where the mercury will average colder than normal.

While no severe cold is in sight for us, I do expect daily high temperatures to hover in the low to mid 40s each day for the next week or so with nighttime readings a tad below freezing. No storms are expected through the weekend and perhaps for much of next week although some clouds may appear from an offshore storm early in the weekend.

With that outlook in mind, I expect that the Ghiorse Factor will hold in the 7-9 range right through the weekend into next week … almost ideal for the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season!
