Long Absent Warm Spell To Return

Nearly three weeks ago Rhode Islanders and, in fact, most of us in the Northeast were treated to a five-day preview of summer as temperatures soared into the upper 70s and low 80s. However since then, over the past three weeks or so, it’s been a return to normality as most daily readings have been in the seasonal 40s and 50s. That is all about to change again beginning this weekend.

I’m looking for temperatures to begin climbing today and to reach near 70 on Saturday afternoon with plenty of sunshine. Even warmer and more humid air will appear by Sunday and that will bring more clouds and an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms but highs will once again reach to 70 degrees or better. Monday is Patriots Day in Massachusetts and Marathon Day in Boston and the runners won’t be happy as readings will likely reach over 80 with only the slightest chance of a cooling sea breeze once they reach the finish in downtown Boston. The mercury should top 70 again on Tuesday before cooler more seasonable air arrives and it’s back nearer to normal for the rest of the week.
