There’s no doubt about it, the odds are improving. What looked like a minimal chance of a White Christmas just a few of days ago looks like at least a 50-50 chance right now. There’s no way to be more specific than that since the potential snow-maker is still over 3000 miles away and just about to enter the Pacific Northwest. So it has a long way to go before reaching here and a lot can happen along the way. But at least it looks like we will have some cold air around when it gets near here sometime Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day. The exact track should determine if it will be snow or rain or both and we won’t know much more about that until later this week.
Meanwhile, the weather should warm a bit over the next couple of days with some rain showers Wednesday and perhaps some rain or snow showers long about Friday morning as the colder air moves back in. Then we’ll watch to see whether the energy from the Pacific Coast storm forms that potential snow/rain maker along the Mid-Atlantic coast. I’ll have more later in the week as more data becomes available.
