As part of GoLocal’s A Guide to Forever, Suzanne Komari, owner of ESTÉE BRIDAL in East Greenwich, joined LIVE to highlight six things you need to know when picking out your wedding dress.

1. Start shopping for your wedding gown 8-9 months prior to your wedding

Komari says you’ll want to have enough time for delivery and alterations.

2. Have a budget

Always have a budget set for your wedding gown be it  $500 or $5000. Komari says don’t forget tax, alterations, and miscellaneous charges.

3. Know your body type. Focus on your shape and not your weight

Komari says to choose the right gown for your body type. She suggests looking into which type of waistline would flatter your body type and try on the appropriate dresses.

4. Pin your favorite gown styles, fabrics, and keep an open mind on trying different styles

Start looking at wedding gown pictures and pinning your favorite styles, but she says to try to keep an open mind when you have your appointments.

5. Order the gown based on your current measurement

Komari says bridal gowns sizes run much smaller than everyday wear, so don’t get hung up sizes.

6. Pick the gown based on how you feel wearing it

“Your wedding, you are wearing it, your day, your choice,” Komari says, adding that you should pick a gown that makes look good, and feel good.

ESTÉE BRIDAL is located at 50 Cliff Street in East Greenwich and they see clients by appointment only.
