Brown Grad Shruti Nagarajan Crowned Miss RI 2016

Shruti Nagarajan, Miss Providence County, has been crowned Miss Rhode Island 2016 and Kate DePetro, Miss West Bay's Outstanding Teen, was crowned Most Outstanding Teen on Sunday afternoon at the 2016 Miss Rhode Island Pageant that was held at the Casino Theater in Newport. 

Both winners will now move on to compete for national titles at the Miss America and Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageants which will be held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Sunday, September 11.

Nagarajan is an alum of Brown University, graduating with a bachelors degree in 2014. Nagarajan's talent is Bollywood fusion dance and her platform is "Upward Mobility: College Access for Low Income and Minority Students."

 Kate DePetro is the daughter of WPRO talk show host John DePetro. 

DePetro performed the song "Popular" from the musical "Wicked" and her platform is "Make a Difference, Make it Positive, Make it Today!"
