The LOOK: Healthy Hair from the Inside Out

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and now he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

With all the over-processing and heat required to keep our tresses stylized, something we need to remember is to give our hair some love and restoration. Here are some tips on how to feed your hair and scalp... literally!

Vitamin power

For healthy, thick hair, especially if you are experiencing hair loss, breakage or thinning due to stress, your best bet is vitamin b12. For fast action, check out sublingual tablets. For a more natural (and delicious) approach, naturally flavored fish oils at your neighborhood Whole Foods or similar market are a great source of b12.

Oil it up

For overly dry hair due to over-processed color or heat damage, put some oil directly on those dry strands. Try avocado or almond oil and rub very little into your hair for a healthy shine.

Stay tuned next week for in-depth techniques for washing and conditioning your hair the way the pros do!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's currently styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair.
