Care New England, Partners HealthCare Extend Letter of Intent Through Jan. 2018

CNE and Partners sign extension
Care New England (CNE) and Partners HealthCare announced that they have agreed to extend a letter of intent through the end of January 2018.

The letter of intent was set to expire on December 31, 2017.

The past two-plus years has seen CNE lose more than $120 million and is now in the process of closing Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket. CNE has pledged to retain some of the positions tied to Memorial, but at a minimum, more than 600 will lose their jobs.

"The extension also maintains exclusive negotiating terms between the two organizations as they continue to pursue a definitive agreement, with the ultimate intent of CNE becoming a part of Partners. Both CNE and Partners continue to work extremely hard on this complex process and remain optimistic that a definitive agreement will be reached," said the two companies in a joint statement released on Wednesday.

The two organizations entered into an agreement to merge in April of 2017.

Partners HealthCare

Partners generated nearly $12 billion in revenue in 2014 - it dwarfs all of the healthcare groups in Rhode Island combined, as Lifespan, RI’s largest healthcare group generates approximately $2 billion a year.”
