Exodus Continues at WPRO

The exodus at WPRO and the Cumulus cluster continues in the Providence market. In the spring, long-time General Manager Barbara Haynes was fired. Then in mid-summer, sales manager/veteran Joe Lembo was let go. Now, the young talent is leaving. Both Kim Kalunian and Andrew Augustus are the latest to resign.

Augustus is going to work in the press office on the staff of Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza. Kalunian has announced her departure, but has not disclosed where she is landing.

All of this comes in light of the parent company facing a financial crisis as Cumulus leadership was forced out and the stock has fallen from a 52-week high of $4.50 per share to it present trading level of $0.47 -- a loss of nearly 90%.

The Cumulus cluster has been one of the most stable in the country. It has been anchored by the long-time top performing WPRO-FM and the talk station WPRO-AM which feature John DePetro and Buddy Cianci. Both DePetro and Cianci have national reputations.
