The Johnny Rockets on Thayer Street in Providence is slated to close in the coming weeks.

According to staff at the restaurant the closing is certain. According to the owner, it is contingent upon the sale to another popular chain -- B. Good.

"I love Thayer Street, I have to say," said Lloyd Sugarman, owner of the Thayer Street Johnny Rockets. "And I want to thank everyone involved there."

"We just have opportunities elsewhere, including opening up a "2.0" Johnny Rockets this week at Warwick Mall," said Sugarman. "We looked at a 2.0 on Thayer but it just didn't work. I am involved in something else exciting coming to Thayer Street, just not at that location."

"Again, this is pending the sale to B. Good," said Sugarman. "The purchase has to close, so nothing is final."

About Johnny Rockets

Sugarman brought Johnny Rockets to Rhode Island after having success franchising the brand out in California.

Latest on Thayer Street

The departure of Johnny Rockets marks the latest in store shake-ups -- and closings -- on Thayer Street.

As GoLocal reported in December 2016:

The Au Bon Pain on Thayer Street in Providence will be closing on December 22, GoLocal has learned.
A store employee confirmed the closing on Sunday, with sources saying the decision was based on the decline in customers due to parking meters, as well as the high rent of the commercial district.

In June, GoLocal reported "Multiple Thayer Street Businesses Closed Due to Parking Meters:"

Multiple former Thayer Street businesses are saying that they closed due in part to the addition of parking meters by the City of Providence -- and dozens more in the commercial area by Brown University on the East Side are calling for their removal.
