NEW: U.S. Economy Adds 224,000 Jobs in June

The U.S. economy added 224,000 jobs in the month of June, while the unemployment rate rose to 3.7 percent, according to the Department of Labor.

Job Numbers

According to the Department of Labor, professional and business services led the way with 51,000 jobs, while healthcare added 35,000 and transportation and warehousing added another 24,000 jobs.

Construction and manufacturing added 21,000 and 17,000 jobs added respectfully.

Overall, the labor force participation rate rose one-tenth to 62.9%, while the total labor force increased by 335,000 to just under 163 million.

Those not in the labor force fell by 158,000 to 96.1 million.

Average hourly earnings rose 0.2% in June.

According to CNBC, wages were up 3.1% over the past 12 months, while the average workweek was unchanged at 34.4 hours.
