U.S. Economy Grows 3.5% in Third Quarter

The United States economy grew 3.5% during the third quarter of 2018.

The growth is slower than the 4.2 percent growth that took place from April to June, however, the two back-to-back quarters are the best stretch since 2014, according to the Commerce Department.

According to the Commerce Department, consumer spending accounts for 70 percent of the economy.

From July to September, consumers increased their spending to a four percent pace, the strongest pace since 2014.

While consumer spending increased, so did job growth.

In September, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent, the lowest rate in 48 years and 134,000 jobs were added in the month.
