RI Business Group on Health to Expand Choosing Wisely Campaign

Choosing Wisely Campaign to expand
The Rhode Island Business Group on Health (RIBGH) announced that it is expanding its Choosing Wisely Campaign to reach the entire state.

“We know that the Choosing Wisely approach works and we are encouraged by the fact that more and more Rhode Island healthcare organizations, physicians and businesses are coming on board. We are now expanding and stepping up our efforts with the goal of getting all Rhode Islanders to initiate productive conversations with their doctors and other healthcare providers. This will not only save money, it will save lives,” said Joanne Bilotta, Choosing Wisely Rhode Island Campaign Manager.

Elements of the campaign will be featured at RIBGH’s Annual Healthcare Summit that is set to take place on Friday, October 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Providence Marriott Downtown.

Campaign Expansion

Launched in 2012 by the American Board of Internal Medicine's ABIM Foundation, the Choosing Wisely campaign is a leading international effort aimed at reducing unnecessary tests, treatments, and procedures in healthcare in order to produce better health outcomes and at lower cost.

The campaign expansion will include an aggressive and proactive social media presence, supplemented by advertising and PSA’s.

The RIBGH will also be stepping up efforts to get more Rhode Island businesses, healthcare providers, hospitals, health insurers, and consumer groups to adopt Choosing Wisely.

Organizations that have adopted Choosing Wisely in conjunction with their employee benefit programs or health care practices include Amica, Brown University, Coastal Medical, Electric Boat, Urgent Care, and Washington Trust. Choosing Wisely supporters include Medical Society of Rhode Island, Rhode Island Department of Health, Rhode Island Foundation, Rhode Island Quality Institute, Care Transformation Cooperative, Blue Cross, Tufts Health Plan, Gallagher, Marsh & McLennan, Hilb Group and USI.
