Marzullo Calls on RI General Assembly to Pass Reproductive Healthcare Act in Special Session

Marzullo Calls on RI General Assembly to Pass Reproductive Health Care Act in Special Session
Democratic candidate for House district 26 Vincent Marzullo is calling for a special session of the Rhode Island General Assembly in order to pass the Reproductive Healthcare Act to codify reproductive freedom protections into Rhode Island law.

“A pattern has been established by the current General Assembly leadership that prevents a fair hearing and vote on important women’s issues – first refusing a floor vote on the Reproductive Healthcare Act, then gutting a Pay Equity bill to effectively deny women their rights to due process and equal protections of the laws,” said Marzullo.

Marzullo’s call is in response to the announcement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's imminent retirement.

Regunberg First Called for Special Session

Last week, state representative Aaron Regunberg joined GoLocal LIVE where he also called on the General Assembly to return immediately for an emergency session.

"We need acute emergency action. This year the General Assembly failed to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade at the state level. This is not an issue in a vacuum - the [Assembly's] record has been abysmal on women's rights and guns issues," said Regunberg.
