CCRI Receives Funding for Clinical Simulation Center From Champlin Foundations
“With the Champlin Foundations funding, we will be able to expand and integrate clinical simulation beyond nursing and into all allied health curriculums offered at CCRI,” Vice President for Academic Affairs Greg Lamontagne said.
High-fidelity Patient simulation is the use of computerized mannequins that replicate real life scenarios. The college has one high-fidelity male mannequin and will purchase a second one.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTThe funding from the Champlin Foundations will be used to purchase two SimJunior pediatric mannequins that simulate a wide range of conditions from a healthy, talking 6-year old boy to an unresponsive, critical patient with no vital signs. The funds will also go toward two SimMom obstetrical mannequins, which are advanced full-body birthing simulators as well as one SimNewB neonatal/infant mannequins which include newborn traits and provides lifelike clinical feedback.
In the simulation center, faculty members will design scenarios using the equipment along with actor or role players, providing students with a controlled environment in which to develop their skills and rehearse the management complex or crisis situations.
“Clinical simulation provides a bridge between classroom learning and real-life clinical experience, enabling students to practice vital procedures and refine their bedside manner in a safe environment," said interim Associate Dean of Nursing Education Rosemary Costigan.
The center is expected to open in February.
Since 2006, CCRI has received over $1.6 million in funding from the Champlin Foundations.
