RI Ranks 26th for Biking, Elorza Kicks Off National Bike Month

The League of American Bicyclists came out with their new state ranking and RI scored right in the middle — ranking 26th and improved from 27th in 2014.
According to the report, Rhode Island was the 9th best in the East and fifth in New England.

As part of National Bike Month, Mayor Jorge Elorza and the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition will be hosting a Bike to Work Day celebration in Burnside Park from 7:30 to 9:30am on Friday.
Members of the public are invited to join one of six bike trains that will be biking to the park from locations across the City, departing at 7:30 am. Bike train routes can be found online at: HERE


Mayor Jorge Elorza will be leading Bike Train 1, which will depart from the Neutaconkanut Recreation Center at 7:30am, bike through Olneyville Square and the West End on Broadway, and into downtown to join the celebration in Burnside Park. The event will feature free coffee and food for commuters, bike demos, information from community organizations and local vendors, and a brief speaking program.
The City of Providence encourages all bicycle commuters to take the following safety measures when biking to work:
· Have your bike checked over by your local bike shop
· Always wear a helmet
· Ride in the right-most lane that goes in the direction that you are traveling
· Obey all stop signs, traffic lights and lane markings
· Look before you change lanes or signal a turn; indicate your intention, then act
· Be visible and predictable at all times; wear bright clothing and signal turns
