There’s something for everyone this weekend on "5 Live" as we highlight the Newport Folk Festival and a major event at Gillette Stadium from a famous part time Rhode Island resident. Read all about it in "5 Live Music Musts."

RI Artists at Newport Folk

With all the attention given to headliners like Roger Waters and The Decembrists, don’t forget to check out some of the best area artists at the Folk Festival. The RI trio Haunt the House is the first act on stage today at 11AM. Later today, former Rhode Islander Joe Fletcher brings his Americana growl to Wildwood Revival, a Roots show happening on the Museum Stage. And tomorrow, Montreal based, but Providence born Barr Brothers perform on the Fort Stage at 12:10. Official Newport Folk After-Parties

A number of Festival sponsored after parties are scheduled this weekend and tickets may still be available for a couple of shows. Tonight at Hope Underground catch New Folks with The Ballroom Thieves and Haunt the House. Saturday, put on your square dancing shoes for the Hoedown at Hope with Americana acts Spirit Family Reunion and The Down Hill Strugglers. The Jane Pickens Theatre also has a great line up with the State of the Union hosted by festival veteran Langhorne Slim and The Heartbreaker Banquet tomorrow night. Both shows are sold out!

Deer Tick After-Parties All Weekend

The hottest ticket in town isn’t the Folk Festival or Taylor Swift, it’s the 4 night stand of after parties hosted by Deer Tick at the Newport Blues Café. You never know who will show up at these shows that go on into the wee hours. Scheduled guests include Leon Bridges and Hiss Golden Messenger tonight, Ravi Shavi, The Suffers and Tommy Stinson tomorrow and Lux Deluxe and Shaley Graves on Sunday.  The sold out shows start at 9PM – Look Out Mama!

Taylor Swift Plays Gillette Stadium this Weekend

Taylor Swift at Gillette Tonight and Tomorrow

Even bigger crowds will fill Gillette Stadium for two larger than life shows with part time Rhode Islander and full time superstar Taylor Swift. Touring on her 5th album, the 1989 World Tour is getting great reviews. Opening acts include HAIM, Vance Joy and Shawn Mendes. Both shows are officially sold out but keep checking here, as last minute tickets are often released. The music starts at 7PM tonight and tomorrow – tickets, if available, start at $79.

FREE Family Concert at Ft. Adams Wednesday

If the full festival experience is too much for the little ones, take them to the Free Family Concert next Wednesday July 29 in the tented Quad Stage at Ft. Adams. Two national acts are scheduled; folk with Guy Davis and Mike Murphy and Jazz from the Eli Yamin Trio. There will be food carts, face painting and balloons for the kids, and top notch festival talent for the big kids. Bring a blanket and arrive early for the fun – music begins at 6PM.
