Students 18 and over can join ZipCar's unique car-sharing service and then can reserve one of the 51 cars in the Providence fleet either online or by phone. Your membership card will unlock the car you rented and you are ready to drive away—gas and insurance is free with your membership. You pay by the hour, and it ranges from about $8 to $10, depending on what kind of vehicle you're using. The cars live in lots all over town, and many are super-close to campuses. It's perfect for a run to the grocery store or Walmart for supplies. Every college, expect for Brown, follows these rates: $0 sign up, $25 annually, $35 driving credit to start. Brown’s rates: $0 sign up, $20 annually, $30 driving credit to start. www.zipcar.com
