DON'T MISS: Newport Skating Center's Grand Opening + Tree Lighting

This Friday, The Newport Skating Center celebrates its Grand Opening and 33rd Annual Tree Lighting, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The evening, and holiday season, kicks off with the lighting of a 30-foot Blue Spruce, donated by the Marshall family of Portsmouth. Entry to the event, located at the Newport Yachting Center on America’s Cup Avenue, is free. The tree lighting will be hosted by LITE Rock 105’s Amy Pontes.

This season’s first public skate session will be from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will resume after the tree lighting event from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with admission $7 for adults and $5 for kids 11 and under.

Here are some of the key upcoming events at the Newport Skating Center this season:

The Amica Insurance Coat Drive from December 6th, 2013 to January 26th, 2014. Donate new or gently used coats to help those in need this winter. Each donor will receive a pass for 2 for 1 admission to the rink. Coats received will benefit the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Newport and Child & Family in Middletown,

Amica Family Fun Night – Holiday Hoopla Edition Skate With Santa on Thursday, December 12th, 2013 at 6:00 p.m.

Amica Insurance is offering a special holiday edition of its weekly Family Fun Night complete with a holiday-themed photo booth, giveaways, complimentary hot cocoa and Santa of course!

Last Chance Skate with Santa on Thursday, December 19th, 2013 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Santa will also visit with the kids after he skates so cameras are encouraged! The Learn to Skate Program directed by professional skater, Meghan Lamarre, is once again being offered by the Island Skating Academy for beginner and advanced students. Click here to learn more about the programs.
