Extras Sought for HBO’s “The Gilded Age” in Newport - Up for 3 Emmy Awards Sunday Night

The HBO hit show “The Gilded Age” — filmed in Newport — is seeking extras for filming this fall. 

RI Film and Television Office Executive Director Steve Feinberg confirmed that Grant Wilfley Casting is seeking Newport locals to play ”1880s” paid background extras.

According to the casting company, filming in Newport will take place from October 9 through October 28 and then again from November 18 through November 26. 

Everyone must attend a costume fitting in Newport prior to the shoot date, which costume fittings to begin on September 23. 

“Must be OK working around smoke, no allergies to wool. No visible tattoos. Natural hair colors only (no highlights etc). No buzz cut or very modern hair styles. Must be OK with period haircut. Women will be fit in corset and bustle,” says the casting company.

GoLocal obtained photos of a shoot on location in Newport in May 2022. 

That year, “The Gilded Age” won a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy for “Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program.”

It has been nominated in 2024 for three Primetime Emmy awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Carrie Coon) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Christine Baranski). 

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards are Sunday night.
