Local Actor Gets His Start

In the past few years, Rhode Island has become a hot spot for Hollywood shoots and that means local talent gets a chance at the spotlight. The latest buzz around the Ocean State is the ongoing filming of a new television show called “Body of Proof” starring boldfaced names Dana Delaney and Jeri Ryan. Another name is Micaiah Castro, a name you may not know…yet. Cai, as he’s known to his near and dear, is a burgeoning actor with his sights set on a full-time career playing other people.

Cai grew up in Providence and is playing a Child Protective Services agent in Body of Proof. He received an e-mail from a local casting agency and when he sent them his headshots, he was in. While he is an extra and does not have lines, the experience has been a fantastic stepping stone in his career. “I love getting lost in a character and that is what drew me to acting. Once I have enough credits, I can join Screen Actors Guild and really get out there.”

The statuesque 21-year-old has plans to move to New York this fall to pursue more opportunities. But he is glad he got his start right here in Providence. “Providence has such a great city vibe and presence and shooting here is easier because you can avoid large crowds and hassles and get the job done.” Has he brushed shoulders with other famous names? “I keep to myself on set and pay the actors the respect they deserve. Speak when spoken to, that’s how I’ll get ahead in this business.”
